Mazda MX-5 racer Mark Pierpoint made a spectacular exit from the first ever Nippon Challenge race at Silverstone on Sunday. The Lutterworth racer vaulted over the back of Andy Burge's similar machine but walked away unscathed after the car had rolled over. The race was red flagged.

Maxim Taylor was the undisputed winner of the restarted Nippon Challenge opener, with fellow RX7 racer Tony Crossley holding off Graham Poultney's Imprezza as the best of the rest. To their rear Jon Greensmith edged out Tom Roche on the final tour for MX5 spoils. Crossley held the early advantage next time out before succumbing to pressure from the chasing Taylor mid-race. Eugene O'Brien managed to pull clear of the Roche/Greensmith battle to claim the MX5 honours.
