26th March 2008 - Round the Bend With Jonathan Greensmith (Motorsport News)

You were joint champion in the MaX5 championship last season. What are your plans for 2008?

I'm sticking to the Mazdas this season but I'll be in the breakaway Ma5da Racing series rather than the MaX5 championship. I'll see how it goes this season and if it doesn't work out then I'll look at moving on

What attracted you to Mazda racing in the first place?

I'd been out of the sport for five years and was looking at getting back into motorsport. My Dad and I went to Snetterton and saw the Mazdas and we were both hooked. It's cheap and cheerful motorsport

What's it like racing against your dad Stephen?

It's interesting. He's a good driver but races mainly for the social aspect. He's quick though and it's interesting when he gets close to me during the races. When he passes me it's a proper wake-up call.

What championship did you make your racing debut in?

It was Formula Jedi in 1999 but I had a big accident at Mallory Park. I went off at Devils Elbow and hit the barrier on both sides of the circuit. I hit one of the barriers head on and broke two vertebrae in my back.

Are you looking at moving on from Mazdas eventually?

I wouldn't mind moving on. Ginettas or Clios would be a good step and the profile would be higher. The problem would be getting the budget together and I'm happy enough with the Mazdas for the time being.
