Ma5da Racing Organisers announce a full development and test schedule to advance the Championship in 2010. The Championship plans to introduce a new supercharged mx5 into the category by 2010.
Ma5da will test and look to introduce a bolt-on upgrade kit for their cars capable of boosting their power output from 120 to 170bhp.
The upgraded car will begin testing later this year with a view to creating a separate Championship Category with its own grid space for next season. The upgrade kits are estimated to cost in the region of £1000-£1500.
"We want to split the grid in 2010," said Ma5da Racing boss Jonathan Blake. "So far this year we have more than 50 cars registered so we have the interest and the numbers to support two separate championships."
"We plan to create a two-tiered series catering for clubman racers who just want low-cost motorsport, and drivers who want to move up to something a little faster but still with an economical budget."
Ma5da Racing is also working with new sponsor Klarius-Timax Exhausts to develop a race catalytic convertor, which Blake hopes will pave the way to making the MX5 Championship a 'green' racing Championship next season.
"Early test have proven the new system drastically reduces emissions and also increases power. We expect half the field to be using the new system this year before we introduce the catalytic convertor in 2010."
The opening round of the MX5 Championship takes place at Silverstone on March 28 with over 30 cars already entered.
